Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the Holiday Season and are energized for a new year! We wrapped 2023 with the launch of several exciting projects, such as the HeartMate 3^TM Discharge Bundle and Heart Healthy Video Series, we continued access to the Berlin Heart Active Driver under the extended trial, and we published new ACTION research. Looking ahead this year we have been meeting individually with all ACTION sites to ensure successful engagement in ACTION and highlight membership benefits for each center. We are excited to expand quality improvement, education, research, and best practice initiatives across the network, as well as engage with Global centers and increase advocacy efforts in the pediatric heart failure space. Reach out with any new ideas for the year ahead. Thank you for your continued efforts!

Happy Fall to All!
We had a successful meeting in St. Louis during the International HF/VAD Summit, and it was great to see so many of you in person! We brainstormed new ideas for QI/Research projects, clinical trials, education projects, advocacy efforts, and ways to improve data collection and project participation. We also played ACTION Trivia — did you know ACTION now has 66 sites in North America and has 27 manuscripts published since 2019? We are starting to plan for our next in-person meeting, which will be at CHOP in February 2024. Details to follow soon…

We hope you are enjoying your summer vacations and finding time to soak up the longer sunnier days of the year with your families!
Looking ahead to the Fall, we are working with several committees to prepare new projects for launch. Some of these projects include a new Discharge Bundle for VAD patients and new interventions for the Fontan Referral project. We have also been working diligently to increase enrollment and data entry in our heart failure and muscular dystrophy registries. This critical data will help support the development of future projects. We appreciate everyone’s efforts throughout the busy summer to keep our important ACTION work moving along!

It was great to see many of you at ISHLT this month! Congratulations to the many authors and co-authors involved in the ACTION abstracts shared at ISHLT (details below).
We had over 100 members at the ACTION meeting who worked together to align Adverse Event definitions and learn about our new initiative—ACTION Global. The launch of ACTION Global is an expanded effort to involve more international sites with an end goal of improving patient outcomes globally by sharing data and practices around the world.

We have had a busy couple of months since our last newsletter in July, including the pilot launch of the Heart Failure registry, a successful Fontan Referral design meeting, and reaching over 1,000 patients entered into our VAD Registry. It has been a few months since our last newsletter. We are trying a new communication method: a “Forecast” email goes out every two weeks with important dates, meetings and resources; and newsletter, which now include data visualizations, will be distributed quarterly.

We are looking forward to seeing many of you at ISHLT in April! If you haven’t already, please RSVP for the ACTION meeting on Tuesday, 4/26 from 3–6pm ET. The meeting is open to all ACTION members attending ISHLT.
In other exciting news, we are getting ready to launch the Berlin Heart Active Driver study! Communications have been sent out to 17 ACTION sites participating in this device trial, and study packets will follow soon. Collaboration and moving the field forward together is one of ACTION’s main principles, and this important trial will be the first of its kind for our network.

We hope you all had a wonderful VADentine’s Day! We are looking forward to ISHLT in April, and our meeting location has been confirmed. We will send more reminders as it gets closer, but please note the ACTION Meeting at ISHLT will take place on April 26, 2022, from 3–6pm in Room 312 at the Hynes Convention Center. The meeting is open to any ACTION members attending ISHLT. We hope to see you there!
