Infectious Adverse Events in Pediatric Paracorporeal Ventricular Assist Devices: An Analysis of the Advanced Cardiac Therapies Improving Outcomes Network (ACTION) Registry

This ACTION registry study of 812 children on paracorporeal VADs found that one-third experienced infectious adverse events, which were associated with worse survival. Overlapping device support and smaller body size emerged as independent risk factors for infection.

Explantation Of Durable Ventricular Assist Device For Myocardial Functional Recovery In Children: A Report From The ACTION Registry

A multi-center ACTION registry study found that while VAD removal following heart recovery is rare in children (about 3%), nearly three-quarters of those who underwent explantation remained alive without needing a transplant or new device at two-year follow-up.

Double Bridge to Heart Transplantation: Outcomes of Early vs Delayed Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenator Crossover in Pediatric Population

This study evaluates the progression of the distal aorta in patients with acute type A aortic dissection complicated by malperfusion syndrome who were treated with endovascular fenestration/stenting followed by delayed open aortic repair, finding that although these patients had faster distal aortic growth, their long-term survival and reoperation rates were similar to those without malperfusion syndrome.

Ventricular assist device implantation in children with a mechanical valve: An ACTION registry analysis

Patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) frequently have had valve interventions, including replacement with a mechanical valve. The impact of a mechanical valve on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing ventricular assist device (VAD) implantation is not well characterized.
