The third Showcase by the Midwest Pediatric Device Consortium is being held at the The Summit in Cincinnati, Ohio, and this time, the focus will be on cardiovascular innovation in collaboration with ACTION. This event will highlight advancement in pediatric clinical trials, evidence generation, cardiovasular startup, and upcoming funding opportunities! The Showcase will bring key stakeholders together to discuss the major pediatric initiatives and strategies aiding innovators, companies, and investors.

The Midwest Pediatric Device Consortium (MPDC) is a FDA-funded consortium led by Nationwide Children’s Hospital, The Ohio State University, Cincinnati Children’s, and Cleveland Clinic Children’s, launched to utilize the resources of the Midwest to advance pediatric device development across the country. This program provides specific funding for devices and resources for inventors to advance their projects. The FDA awarded a $6.95 million grant to the collaboration to establish the MPDC and to provide funding, resources, networking, clinical trial infrastructure, a commitment to underserved populations, real-world evidence, and collaboration with other national PDCs.

ACTION unites and connects our global healthcare community to improve outcomes for patients with heart failure. Initiatives include planning and implementation of quality improvement initiatives, data collection, education and program development materials, and much more. Discovery and improvement are often limited by small numbers of patients at any one care center; the open communication and transparency of outcomes between our members inspire inventive thinking and evidence-based practices to enhance standards of care and improve patient outcomes.

In September 2013, the Sheik Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation (SZI) at the Children’s National Health System and the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering received a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) P50 grant to form the National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation (NCC-PDI). In 2023, Children’s National was awarded an additional P50 grant from the FDA to advance the development and commercialization of pediatric medical devices. Children’s National leads one of the five FDA Pediatric Device Consortia (PDC) programs. The Alliance for Pediatric Device Innovation (APDI) comprises esteemed partners including Johns Hopkins University, Tufts Medical Center, CIMIT at Mass General Brigham, and MedStar Health Research Institute. APDI will leverage this grant to provide a comprehensive platform of services, expertise, and funding to support pediatric innovators in bringing medical devices to market that specifically address the unique needs of children.
