Take a look back at the ACTION 2018 Highlights Report. Our network and committee leaders have also prepared strategic plans for 2019 so we can focus our efforts on the projects with the greatest impacts.

The ACTION Harmonization Committee released survey data on program guidelines and protocols. Here’s what they found:

Center participation: 14 total complete responses

  • Total 13 centers represented (2 responses from one center) out of possible 29 centers (48%)

  • Only one center answered “no” for all protocols

Results below for 13 centers

  • Pre-Implant VAD protocol: 5 (38%) have a protocol, 1 shared informal evaluation process

  • Implantation VAD protocol: 6 (46%) have a protocol

  • Pump thrombosis protocol: only 3 (23%) have a protocol, 1 center in process

  • Stroke protocol: 8 (62%) have a protocol, 1 center in process

  • Driveline infection, driveline care protocol: only 4 (31%) have a protocol

  • Right heart failure protocol: only 3 (23%) have a protocol

  • VAD echo imaging protocol: 8 (62%) have a protocol

  • End of life, withdrawal of VAD care protocol: only 3 (23%) have a protocol

  • Destination/chronic therapy protocol: only 2 (15%) centers have a protocol, 1 shared unwritten protocol

VAD topics with <50% center written protocols in place:

  • Pre-Implant/Implantation

  • Pump thrombosis

  • Driveline infection

  • Right heart failure

  • End of life, withdrawal VAD

  • Destination/chronic therapy

Harmonization Committee is currently drafting harmonized documents for each of these topics!
